Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS)
Database Lookup Tool

After April 5, 2010 CMS intends to reject claims where the referring and/or ordering physician is not in PECOS.

Providers now have an easy way to compare their referral sources against the PECOS database!

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. This SQL database includes the national provider identifier (NPI) numbers and names of physician and non-physician practitioners (NPPs) with current enrollment records who are eligible to order and refer to Medicare beneficiaries.
  2. At a minimum, insert the last name of the referring physician/NPP directly below. It is not case sensitive. First name (space) last name will result in fewer results.
  3. Click Submit. Results will follow in several seconds
  4. (Optional) Copy and paste any NPI into the NPPES Registry Search.

You will receive the complete name, mailing and physical address, taxonomy information, licensure and other data.

Step Two

All results from the “Eligible PECOS Database Search” ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED and are eligible to order/refer services for Medicare beneficiaries.

At your option, you may copy and paste any NPI into the official NPPES Registry Search below to receive the complete name, mailing and physical address, taxonomy information, licensure and other data of the physician/NPP.
