#HomeHealthChat Exemplifies Need to Bring HME Into Broader Home Health Discussions

By Lalaina Rabary, People for Quality Care On Jan. 27, individuals interested in the future of home health logged onto Twitter to participate in a live chat co-hosted by People for Quality Care and The Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation. The topic, “Home health partnerships with HME,” proved to be of great interest to all who attended. We were pleased to see an overwhelming recognition of HME as an integral element in the delivery of home health. Participants commented that HME helps keep patients independent and healthy, but questions remain. Specifically, how will HME address fraud and abuse? How can we engage consumers to be advocates for quality care? How will we recognize school-aged caregivers and millennials who care for loved ones at home? How will we work with others? These simple questions do not have simple answers and exemplify the need to bring HME into broader health care discussions. People for Quality Care is seeking these opportunities and encourages you to do the same. Our focus is to join others who are interested in drafting blueprints for the future of home health delivery and need your help! If you see any opportunities for HME to be a part of a discussion, please contact us at 1-866-544-7913.
