Provider Input Needed: Help the Industry Track Medicare Audits

Posted on in HME Government Issues

Independent providers are facing challenges on multiple fronts, and the difficulty of audits by CMS contractors still remains extremely prevalent and must be resolved. The amount of overreaching audits to providers continues to skyrocket, causing not only a huge headache of paperwork but also a large withholding of crucial cash flow into independent DME and CRT providers.

A widely diverse group of industry stakeholders has partnered with AAHomecare and created a tool to collect and house audit information. The HME Audit Key is an audit tracking system to collect data in order to thoroughly and accurately track the impact of Medicare audits on HME suppliers. In order for policymakers to understand just how big of a problem audits are to providers, having this hard data will only strengthen our case to produce quality reforms to the program.

We strongly encourage all HME suppliers to sign-up for the HME Audit Key to experience the benefits of the survey and provide the data that industry stakeholders need to advocate for audit reform on Capitol Hill.

AAHomecare also plans to launch a companion tool, the Audit and Appeal Mapping System, in the second quarter to help HME companies collect the data needed for the HME Audit Key. Sample data will include how many audits suppliers have at the different levels of appeals and how many appeals they have won.
