The Importance of Measuring Patient Outcomes

Published in Complex Rehab on December 04, 2019

Outcomes are becoming a major focus in the healthcare industry. As payers continue to focus on value-based care in the healthcare industry, it will soon become a requirement for all providers to report on patient outcomes. U.S. Rehab has partnered with the University of Pittsburgh to create a tool that measures and reports on patient outcomes while also providing statistical evidence that providing proper equipment can reduce negative occurrences or preventable medical complications. With better care, clients have better health which lowers costs to the healthcare industry.

The Functional Mobility Assessment (FMA) Outcomes Program is a quality assurance survey that can be used by mobility providers to track patient outcomes. The data that has been collected shows that rehab products and services provided by quality ATPs help keep patients out of the hospital, reduce wound frequency, and lower the number of patient falls. This program shows that while providing the right equipment to patients may cost a little more up front, it can significantly save the healthcare system, and the providers, money in the long run.

“Insurance companies and CRT providers that put true focus on patient care as the primary concern in the healthcare equation will improve lives and remove unnecessary cost,” states Greg Packer, President of U.S. Rehab. “Collectively, we must think about outcomes first in order to accomplish this.”

The data that is collected through the FMA validates the significance of quality rehab providers and ATP involvement and how they positively impact patient outcomes and save costs throughout the health care industry.
