Barely holding our excitement, we’ve made various announcements surrounding VGM Retail‘s Brick by Brick: Retail Learning Workshops. VGM Retail is excited, VGM Group is excited, vendor sponsors are excited, and attendees are excited! With that said, it’s clear that everyone is very enthusiastic about the upcoming workshops!

So today, instead of the usual workshop announcement, we are going to break the day down, brick by brick, in order for prospects like you to get the full scope of the 2018 Brick by Brick: Retail Learning Workshops.

Who are the Sponsors?

Their orthaheel orthotic provides users with stability, balance, and support, giving users the proper alignment to prevent and treat foot-related pain. 

What is the Workshop Experience?

To keep it short and simple, this will be an interactive day led by industry leaders to provide attendees with hands-on opportunities to create business solutions, streamline their business processes, and innovate for future industry trends. The workshop is mostly small-group based, with the exception of a few short lectures and three large-group discussion breakouts.

What is the Inspiration for the Content of the Workshops?

Lover of baseball, VGM Retail Director Rob Baumhover created the three-circle concept based on the false premise many business owners have today, which is “If they build it, they will come,” (quote from a legendary movie filmed in Iowa, Field of Dreams). Tapping into his Iowa roots, he realized that, contrary to the premise of Field of Dreams, owners cannot just build a business and expect it to be successful. They must put work into these core areas: marketing, product, and experience.

What are the Details of the Content to be Discussed During the Workshops?

The three-circle concept contains these three elements, or bricks if you will: marketing, product, and experience. The content surrounding these building blocks are detailed as follows:

  • Marketing: No matter how well designed your business is, you cannot expect customers to visit out of thin air. This section of the workshop will discuss the old DME/HME industry trend that once looked at customers from a “sickness and clinical” scope to the new trend of looking at customers from a “health and wellness lifestyle” standpoint. Once this industry shift is acknowledged, attendees will then physically create a health-and-wellness-focused marketing plan that incorporates a health-centered brand message, identifies potential marketing channels, the ideal marketing budget, and determines expected ROI.
  • Product: The health industry is consistently innovating, and because of this, new and improved products are popping into the market. This section of the workshop will unravel through an innovation lens. It will focus on helping attendees choose the right products to carry, evaluate product performance, determine potential incremental products, and manage inventory on hand. All of these are essential for smoothing business operations, maintaining consumer interest, and staying on top of the changing industry. Again, attendees will complete a physical implementation plan around this core element.
  • Experience: We’ve all heard the tired lines, “Retail is dying,” or “The Retail Apocalypse is here.” However, these couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, retail is changing—that’s no secret. But, this brick will allow for confidence in the longevity of individual retail businesses. In this section, discussion topics include merchandising, store design, and staffing. Attendees will identify components of the ideal store experience, work through activities to enhance their own store experience, and create an implementation plan for them to achieve a model-store experience at home.

Is There a Cost for This Workshop?

Due to the workshop’s amount of expertise, innovation, and training elements, VGM Retail has cited the cost at $50 for VGM members, and $75 for non-members. The cost covers the workbook and lunch. However, vendor sponsors have so graciously invested in every attendee by providing a $200 product credit, $50 per vendor to each attendee. Thus, confirming attendees will receive far greater than the costs outlined.
