VGM Members get busy following S.2312 announcement

Posted on in HME Government Issues

Last week senators introduced the “DME Access and Stabilization Act of 2015”, and this week VGM Members are taking action to speak out.

VGM’s Tom Powers traveled to Denver, Colorado, organizing a meeting of members with Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.). They discussed competitive bidding relief, CRT accessories and ventilator legislation. “The Congresswoman is aware of our issues and supportive of our industry,” said Powers, “She requested I meet her again next week in Washington, D.C. to continue discussions.”

Jody Wright, VGM Member and president of Rocky Mountain Medical Equipment LLC & Major Medical Supply LLC noted the value of having the right team in attendance to tell the story seamlessly. “When the conversation with providers started to lull, Tom Powers was there to speak her language, mentioning her supportive colleagues in Washington,” said Wright. “It was a key component of getting her attention.”

Further north, John Gallagher and VGM Members met with staff members of Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT) in Missoula. The group discussed how vital the S. 2312 is to providers offering a little relief from the upcoming fifty percent cuts to the DME industry. Joining the meeting was Deputy Ombudsman to the Small Business Administration, Yolanda Swift. Both the staff and SBA were very supportive of the efforts that Big Sky AMES has been a part of and were very well versed in all of the industry concerns, this bodes well for the ground movement as support grows for S. 2312!

Since the introduction of the DME Access and Stabilization Act of 2015 late last week, more than 800 industry advocates and VGM Members have emailed their senators.

Now is the time to reach out to your senators and urge them to support or sponsor this legislation that offers some long overdue relief for providers. The bill already has a few co-sponsors that have been extremely supportive of the DME industry, they include: Sens. Pat Roberts (R-KS), Angus King (I-ME) and Mike Crapo (R-ID).
