DMEPOS Accreditation in 2026: How to Stay Compliant

For DMEPOS providers, accreditation has always been mandatory. But with CMS DMEPOS accreditation requirements changing to annual reaccreditation and stricter compliance expectations, many VGM members are finding the process more time-consuming, costly, and difficult to manage. According to recent HME News articles, industry leaders report greater administrative burden, higher costs, more documentation requirements, and increased pressure on already stretched teams.

The message from suppliers across the industry is clear: DMEPOS accreditation isn't getting easier.

The shift to annual accreditation reinforces a growing reality: accreditation can no longer be treated as a once-every-few-years event. Providers need a year-round strategy for maintaining DMEPOS standards through accurate documentation, training staff, monitoring regulatory changes, and preparing for surveys. With CMS now requiring 100% compliance at the time of survey, organizations face greater pressure to stay continuously audit-ready.

How VGM Helps Providers Navigate Accreditation Challenges

To support VGM members navigating these new accreditation requirements, VGM partnered with the Healthcare Quality Association on Accreditation (HQAA) to create “Your Guide to Annual Accreditation”. This free resource helps VGM members:

  • Reduce last-minute survey preparation
  • Organize critical documentation
  • Clarify team responsibilities
  • Create a repeatable accreditation process
  • Improve accreditation readiness throughout the year
  • Approach survey day with greater confidence

More importantly, it provides a framework for shifting from a reactive accreditation strategy to a proactive one.

The guide reflects the network of support available through VGM. Combined with VGM's industry experts, education resources, government relations guidance, and DMEPOS compliance support, members have access to practical solutions that simplify accreditation and support long-term success.

Don’t Navigate Accreditation Alone

Now is the time to build a year-round accreditation strategy.
