VGM Expands Strategic Expertise with New Industry Consultants

VGM & Associates is excited to announce the expansion of its VGM Professional Services team with the addition of three distinguished consultants: Steve Baker, Brian Bersano, and Tonya Williams. Each brings decades of experience and specialized expertise that will further enhance VGM’s ability to deliver strategic, operational, and compliance support to its members.

VGM Professional Services offers a comprehensive suite of services, including strategic planning, sales development, revenue cycle optimization, technology integration, and interim leadership. They deliver creative solutions and expert advice designed to meet the changing demands of the healthcare sector. The professionals and consultants at VGM Professional Services share important industry knowledge and fresh perspectives to help businesses uncover new opportunities, tackle complex challenges, and rethink strategies for achieving success in their organizations.

Steve Baker, President of Healthcare Efficiency Associates (HCEA), specializes in DME consulting. With a career that includes leadership roles at Lincare, Respiratory Health Services, and multiple DME startups, Baker has a proven track record of success with both large and small health systems across the U.S. His services include interim leadership, EMR selection, accreditation preparation, insurance contract negotiations, and performance turnaround. Baker’s agreement with VGM allows members to access his expertise through a collaborative engagement model that ensures tailored solutions and measurable outcomes.

Brian Bersano brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, with a career that spans physical therapy, DME ownership, and executive leadership. After earning his MBA, Brian helped grow a single-location DME company into a multi-branch operation before selling to AeroCare, where he served under the COO managing over 250 branches. His expertise includes regional operations, custom mobility, payer contracting, and post-acquisition integration. Most recently, Brian led a nationwide $85 million capitated payer contract for DME across 32 states. His academic background includes degrees in biomedical science, physical therapy, and business administration.

Tonya Williams boasts three decades of experience in the DME sector. She previously worked as the National Hospice Director for a national provider, overseeing more than 250 branches under the COO's leadership. Additionally, she led a region in the southern United States and managed centralized intake processes across 14 states. Her expertise encompasses revenue cycle management, revenue optimization, and the implementation of process improvements and best practices.

“We are proud to welcome Brian, Tonya, and Steve to VGM,” said Jamie Downing, SVP of Education and Professional Services. “Their combined experience and strategic insight will empower our members to navigate challenges, optimize operations, and unlock new growth opportunities.”
