CMS Releases Critical Updates On The Medicare Supplier Enrollment Moratorium And Round 2028 Competitive Bidding Program

Medicare’s DMEPOS Supplier Enrollment Moratorium Has Expired | Action Required for Round 2028 Bidders  

This message is to inform you that the 6-month temporary moratorium on accepting Medicare supplier enrollment applications, which became effective on February 27, 2026, has now expired as of August 27, 2026. 
 
The National Provider Enrollment (NPE) Contractors are once again accepting initial enrollment applications from Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) suppliers. 
 
If you are planning to bid in Round 2028 of the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program (CBP), you should submit any completed enrollment applications as soon as possible to provide the Medicare Enrollment Contractors maximum time to process your application before the DMEPOS CBP Round 2028 bidding window opens. 
 
Please keep the following in mind: 

• Delays in submitting your application may result in your application not being processed in time for the DMEPOS CBP Round 2028 bidding window. 
• Ensure that all required documentation is complete and accurate to avoid processing delays.

1. Submit all enrollment application information to ensure you are eligible to bid in Round 2028 as soon as possible. 
2. Verify that your application includes all required supporting documentation.

Round 2028 Competitive Bidding Program Updates: New FAQs & Fact Sheets, Including Bidder Eligibility Details & Licensure Information. 

CMS updated the Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) website for Round 2028 of the Competitive Bidding Program with new Fact Sheets on Bidder Eligibility Requirements and information on Licensure for Bidders. Five new FAQ documents were also posted providing additional information: 

1. Are state and territory licensure requirements mandatory for all DMEPOS CBP suppliers? 
2. What happens if I submit a bid without a required state or territory license? 
3. What if I still have questions after reviewing the DMEPOS Licensure Database and the Notes section? 
4. What states and territories are included in the nationwide Remote Item Delivery Competitive Bidding Area? 
5. Why is it so important to read the Notes section of the DMEPOS Licensure Database?
