Dear VGM Live at Home Members,

As we’ve previously communicated, the years 2024-2026 are pivotal for the evolution of the home access industry. We’re actively developing valuable programs that will foster our growth, scalability, and credibility. In this note, we’d like to update you on our ongoing initiatives and reintroduce a new vendor partner, Autoslide.

Apprenticeship Program

We’re partnering with Cor Freedom/Vets Access, a VGM Live at Home member in Michigan, to create an apprenticeship program for field technicians. This comprehensive program, lasting approximately two to two and a half years, will include 400-450 hours of classroom instruction covering carpentry skills, industry-specific courses, and manufacturer-certified trainings. Additionally, there will be 4,318 hours of on-the-job training.

Upon completion, the apprentice will be considered a journeyman in the home access profession. This program has already been approved in Michigan, and we’re seeking national recognition from the Bureau of Labor.

Programs like this not only help you recruit top talent but also retain them by providing a clear career path. The classroom work is structured in six-month semesters with approximately four to six hours of coursework per week. The on-the-job training is integrated into your company’s workflow and includes built-in pay raises when an apprentice reaches established milestones.

We’re aiming to launch this program either in the fourth quarter of 2024 or early 2025. We’ll provide a complete update at our Building Opportunities Summit in November.

New Vendor Partner: Autoslide

We’re delighted to welcome back Autoslide! Known for their excellent power opener for sliding doors, Autoslide now offers an AutoSwing Door Opener. This high-quality product line is easy to install, comes with its own app, and offers numerous Bluetooth activation options. We believe this will be a game-changer for your clients, particularly those who require ramps or use wheelchairs.

Join us for a webinar on May 30 at 1 p.m. CT, “Access Unlocked: Advancing Accessibility with Autoslide’s Automated Door Systems.” Visit their vendor page on our website for more information.

Other Updates

Our Field Tech Training was a success, and we’re planning another session for late August or early September.

We’re also updating our member locator for our new website, which will go live soon. Please ensure your location(s) are listed correctly.

Save the Date

The 2024 Building Opportunities Summit is scheduled for November 7-9 in Kansas City, MO. Registration will open in late June or early July. We’re finalizing our agenda, promising great content and numerous networking opportunities. We’re excited to announce that comedian Michael Joiner, who has toured with Larry the Cable Guy, will be performing.

Thank you for your membership with VGM Live at Home. It’s our honor to work with professionals like you who provide meaningful services to their communities.

Best Regards,

Jim Greatorex
