Kentucky Governor Announces Reprieve from Previously Announced Kentucky Medicaid 4% Rate Cut 

On July 22, 2026, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear delivered welcome news when he announced that an unexpected state surplus has generated sufficient funding to avoid the planned 4% Medicaid reimbursement cut scheduled to take effect August 1, 2026. The administration expects the surplus funding to sustain current reimbursement levels through June 2027, the end of the state’s fiscal year. According to the Kentucky Lantern, the department will issue updated notices to providers on the change. 

While Kentucky Medicaid providers and beneficiaries have received an immediate reprieve through June 2027, providers were put on notice that the funding solution is temporary. And Medicaid funding will be revisited by the Kentucky General Assembly during its January session to address ongoing budget pressures continuing the uncertainty of reimbursement rates.
