Staffing Ratios and Compensation Insights for U.S. Rehab Members and CRT Dealers

In the evolving landscape of assistive technology and complex rehab technology (CRT) services, understanding industry benchmarks for staffing and compensation is essential for maintaining operational efficiency, attracting top talent, and delivering high-quality care to individuals who rely on mobility and seating solutions.

Based on data from a 2025 benchmarking survey, this report offers valuable guidance on how organizations are structuring their teams and compensating key roles—particularly assistive technology professionals (ATPs), service technicians, and billing personnel.

ATP Staffing Ratios

  • For every 1.0 ATP full-time equivalent (FTE), organizations typically employ:
    • 0.88 Service Technician FTEs
    • 1.02 Billing Personnel FTEs

These ratios emphasize the need for a well-balanced support structure on a team to ensure efficient operations and adequate support for ATPs.

ATP Compensation

  • 82% of ATPs receive a salary plus commission
  • 9% are compensated with salary only
  • 9% are compensated with commission only

Commission structures vary, offering flexibility based on organizational goals:

  • 50% based on collected revenue
  • 10% based on billed revenue
  • 10% based on HCPC-based percentages
  • 10% based on gross product profitability
  • 10% flat rate
  • 10% customized or other models

This data indicates that there are numerous ways to structure ATP commissions, allowing for flexibility based on an organization's needs.

Service Technician Compensation

  • 82% of service techs are paid hourly, with an average rate of $24/hour
  • 18% of service techs are paid a salary

Billing Personnel Compensation

  • 63% of billing personnel are paid a salary
  • 37% are paid hourly, averaging $25/hour
  • Salaries range from $45,000 to $65,000

These findings provide a clear snapshot of current industry standards, helping organizations benchmark their practices and make informed decisions. By aligning staffing ratios and offering competitive, flexible compensation packages, companies can enhance operational efficiency, retain skilled professionals with improved employee retention, and stay competitive in a growing market for mobility and seating solutions.
