Iowa's Governor Kim Reynolds Signs the Work Comp Prosthetic Bill

Published in Government Relations on June 15, 2022

Iowa bill H.F.2411, an act relating to replacements of permanent prosthetic devices for injured workers, signed by the Governor Reynolds.

In the final days of Iowa’s legislative session, H.F.2411 – bill allowing for more than one prosthesis per lifetime for work comp, passed both Iowa’s House and Senate. Governor Kim Reynolds signed the bill into law today. Prior to the passage of this bill, Iowa only allowed for one prosthetic per lifetime for workers injured on the job.

Sadly, OPGA President and champion of the O&P profession, Todd Eagen, unexpectedly passed away on June 4. A strong advocate for this bill, he had previously commented on its passage in the House and Senate saying, “This was a necessary correction to the current law which only allowed for one permanent prosthetic per lifetime in Iowa. Depending on the age of the worker, over a lifetime they could legitimately need multiple prosthesis from a medically necessary standpoint. We are delighted with this necessary change to Iowa legislation.”

Todd Eagen and Tom Powers of VGM’s Government Relations team worked hard for this win. In Todd’s honor, Tom Powers and Mike Isaacson will attend the Governor's signing at the Iowa Capitol.

Many thanks go out to all who assisted in the passage of this bill.
