I would like to extend an early invitation for you to join me, either virtually or in person, at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City for an exciting event, “Osseointegration (OI) for Amputees: Prosthetics, Rehabilitation, and Surgery,” on Friday, May 30, from 8:45 am to 4:25 pm ET. This event is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your expertise and gain access to the latest advancements in osseointegration, which you can directly apply to your practice and patient care.

You'll have the chance to learn from leading experts in osseointegration surgery for amputees, limb reconstruction, and experienced prosthetists. They will provide both didactic and hands-on education to help you better understand osseointegration and the unique needs of OI patients. Topics will include the benefits and complications of osseointegration, the crucial role Certified Prosthetist Orthotists (CPOs) play in caring for osseointegration patients, and the principles, techniques, and clinical applications of osseointegration in prosthetics and postoperative rehabilitation.

Attendees will learn to evaluate patient suitability for osseointegration, taking into account medical, anatomical, and psychosocial factors that influence patient success. Surgeons and prosthetists will explain the key components of the surgical process with a hands-on saw-bones lab, in addition to a deep dive into the role of CPOs in fitting, aligning, adjusting, and maintaining bone-anchored osseointegrated prostheses.

Opportunities for access to osseointegration care are created through education. Empower yourself with the knowledge and skills to provide optimal outcomes for amputee patients undergoing osseointegration procedures. By attending this event, OPGA members can be at the forefront of OI education, enhancing their skills, knowledge, and professional network. OPGA is committed to increasing osseointegration awareness and education to reduce and minimize burdens and barriers for both patients and clinicians.
