Featuring Two Champions Of Change: Robert Beard of YD Home Medical & Rob Minicucci Jr. of Health System Services

Published in Government Relations on July 24, 2025

Today, we’re proud to spotlight two outstanding durable medical equipment (DME) champions whose advocacy efforts are making a meaningful difference: Robert Beard of YD Home Medical of Alabama and Rob Minicucci Jr. of Health System Services of New York. These individuals took time out of their busy schedules to personally connect with elected officials, demonstrating how local action can spark national change.

Making Advocacy Personal: Robert Beard’s Grassroots Impact

Robert Beard of YD Home Medical in Alabama recently showed the true power of grassroots advocacy by encouraging Representative Terri Sewell, a key member of the influential House Energy and Commerce Committee, to co-sponsor H.R. 2005.

With just two strategically crafted emails sent to Rep. Sewell’s health staff—and a few thoughtful follow-ups—Robert helped drive legislative support without ever leaving Alabama. No lobbyists, no trips to Washington—just authentic, local engagement.

“Advocacy is like sales—you won’t persuade someone without building a relationship first,” said Robert. “That’s why it’s crucial for constituents in each district to connect with their legislators and/or staff. It doesn’t take much time, and while guidance and resources from VGM and AAHomecare are valuable, lawmakers want to hear directly from the people they represent—not just lobbyists.”

Thanks to his persistence, Robert has now formed a collaborative relationship with Rep. Sewell’s team, reinforcing that meaningful change can begin with a single step. His story serves as a powerful reminder: advocacy is for everyone, and sometimes, change begins simply by pressing “send.”

Building Bridges in New York: Rob Minicucci Jr. Hosts Local Leaders

In Niagara Falls, New York, Rob Minicucci Jr. of Health System Services recently welcomed Senate Minority Leader Robert G. Ortt and District Director Andrew Dugan for a facility tour and discussion on DME access.

Rob posted on LinkedIn:

“We had a productive conversation about the critical role Durable Medical Equipment providers play in keeping New Yorkers healthy at home — and the policy changes needed to ensure access, affordability, and sustainability across the continuum of care. Grateful for their time, support, and commitment to understanding the challenges facing patients, caregivers, and frontline providers in our community and throughout New York State.”

By engaging leaders directly and showcasing the real-world impact of home-based care, Rob illustrated how providers can help shape policy at the local level.
